Letters of the day! (A,C,F,M,and S)

A is for Albatross.

Grey-headed Albatross (from Australian Antarctic Division)

The project my group been assigned to for the conservation biology project is on Seabirds! :)
8 species of seabirds which spend some/all of their lives in Western Australian waters and islands are currently threatened. We split up some preliminary research for the week - and I'm researching on Salvin's Albatross and the Grey-headed Albatross. I've heard about and seen a few random pictures of albatross in my lifetime, but never really got into really looking at/finding out about these birds. I didnt even know they existed in Australia haha. It's not often that a photo of a sea-gull like bird makes you go WOW, but this one did. Come to think of it, it would be awesome to see one of these in the wild - albatrosses seem to be magnificent birds. And whoa! a wingspan of more than 2metres!! they're huge! imagine that flying overhead. 2metres is longer than me!! hahah... ya man. so yea the project is starting to look interesting... :)

C is for Chicks.

For the past few weeks, uncle has been working lovingly and diligently on a chicken coop for the backyard.... (I'm so amazed at his carpentry skills. apparently it's a childhood dream of his - i think he does have a love for and the natural knack for putting pieces of wood together to make something practical but really nice). And TODAY the chicks arrived!!! :D :D :D How good it is to finally have some fluffy friends again!! yay...yup there they are - my 1st look at the three 2week-old babies which were peacefully sleeping :) Yup they're gonna grow up to be good egg-laying hens :)

F is for Flatworm.

In zoology lab on thurs we got to play with some marine flatworms! Honestly, i'm not a worm person. worms freak me out. But quite cool, that was probably the 1st time in my life i've intentionally touched a worm. yay! one fear conquered! Hallelujah! haha yea man, it actually felt alright. cool worms.

M is for Mushrooms.

It is SUCH a good idea to cook up a huge batch of fresh sliced mushrooms (with olive oil, italian herbs, salt n pepper) in the beginning of the week!! :D I'm so glad i had mushroom cravings. haha. Yea, becos then on tues, i had a chicken mayo + mushrooms + cheese sandwich, wed i cooked bacon and mushroom aglio olio spaghetti, thurs i had a toasted mushroom "melt" hotdog roll, and today i finished it all by making mushroom scrambled eggs for everyone's breakfast :) WOOTS!! Mushrooms MMM :)

S is for Soy-based Milk.

Did you know loads of people are lactose intolerant? Well I've always figured I probably am slighlty lactose intolerant. Cos like if i take fresh milk (like on its own or with cereal), i'll likely be found in the toilet quite soon after consuming it. Haha! I've played with the idea of using soy-based milk for some time, but never seriously cos i felt ah it's something i can live with. THEN i suspect the trigger that sent me flying to the nearest Woolworths to find non-dairy milk was this time back in perth - due to the warm weather ah yee n uncle had bought UHT milk (the full-cream hard-core milk stuff!).

So i took it for a few days with cereal then one morning after drinking it, i had SUCH horrible diarrhoea! :( NOT funny to be stuck in the school toilet for 20min and have to keep running back to the toilet every few minutes (HAHA and Amar offered me a green apple saying: "Take it...it'll cure you..." and i was laughing at how it was like the witch telling Snow White: "Take it...and ALL your dreams will come true..." EHH but it really helped leh! Maybe green apples are the next natural diarrhoea remedy - what say you Xinyi, my natural med friend?)

So yea becos of that i decided i must try soy-based milk. Haha and you know what? surprisingly, i could get used to this stuff. It's like not really like tao-hui-ju...it's like milk with a soy-nutty kinda taste. haha. Ya it actually tastes ok with cereal...just that i think i'll prob stick to normal milk for tea, hot chocolate n coffee....abit strange to think about soy milk in those drinks....
